Garfield Primary school is very proud of its history with the RACV Energy Breakthrough HPV event which is held at Maryborough every year.
Depending on student interest we can enter up to two teams of ten students into the event each year. With a substantial amount of support from parents and local businesses the HPV teams and pit crew work hard through the year to develop their knowledge about the HPV construction and track rules.
They learn and develop a presentation to show their knowledge of energy saving, healthy eating, health and fitness and the effect of fossil fuels on our earth.
We have two recumbrant trikes which we ride in the three day event which culminates in a race over two days. This is a program that falls within the 'extracurricula' category of what we offer at Garfield Primary School, however through the work the students undertake in preparing for the event they access an enormous amount of curriculum content in the process. HPV is offered predominantly to the Year 5/6 students within our school.
