On behalf of the staff and school council, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our current students and families, and also to those beginning their relationship with Garfield Primary School. I am pleased to introduce myself as the Principal of our school and hold this position of responsibility with a great deal of pride.
Garfield Primary School's motto 'Care to Learn, Learn to Care' is lived through our daily teaching and learning practices. We support our students to become motivated learners, as well as caring and positive members of our community. Our school strives to enhance the learning outcomes of all students in literacy and numeracy through explicit teaching and engaging learning programs that are differentiated to support the diversity of the students we serve. We believe that ALL students can learn at high levels when given the appropriate time and support to do so.
At Garfield Primary School our students 'Aim for the Stars'. This is the title of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework which underpins all that we do. Through focusing on developing positive learning and social behaviours, our students are continually developing the skills to become positive and active members of the community. Our students engage in focused, multiage learning sessions to learn explicit skills around our key values of Safety, Respect and Learning and this has had an enormous impact on building our school culture into the wonderful culture that it is.
To complement our relentless focus on developing the core literacy and numeracy skills of all learners, our school also offers a wide range of extracurricular opportunities to ensure we are providing a very well rounded learning experience for our students.
We are extremely lucky to have such a beautiful learning environment for our students, boasting large flexible learning spaces and impressive playground and outdoor facilities. Our school was completely rebuilt in 2012, with our new learning spaces opening for the beginning of the 2013 school year. Our learning facilities are vibrant, open spaces that provide students with a range of experiences in their daily learning that is not possible in other settings.
Our school holds a rich history and with that comes a great amount of pride. I would like to offer an invitation to anyone who would like to learn more about the fantastic things happening at our school and encourage you to contact me to arrange a personalised tour to see how we can support your child becoming an active, motivated and caring learner.
