All students from Foundation - Year 6 participate in a Japanese lesson each week.
Learning languages extends literacy repertoires and the capacity to communicate; strengthens understanding of the nature of language, of culture, and of the processes of communication. Learning languages also develops intercultural capability, including an understanding of and respect for diversity and difference, and an openness to different experiences and perspectives.
At Garfield Primary School, children are progressively taught communication skills in Japanese. They are immersed in rich cultural experiences to develop a deep understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture and history, and the relationship between language, culture and learning.
