Aim For The Stars sessions

A key component of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework are our weekly Aim For The Stars sessions. During these sessions we explicitly teach and practice a specific expectation/behaviour linked to one of our core school values. We believe that we cannot hold students accountable for that which we have not taught, so these sessions are vitally important to teach and practice school expected behaviours. These sessions take place in classrooms with our generalist teachers.

Student-led sessions

A highlight on our calendar each term are our student-lead sessions. These take place 1-2 times each term and involve our Year 6 students (with support from a teacher) planning and delivering a lesson for all other classes, linked to a specific value and expectation. Whilst it can be a bit nerve-racking for our Year 6 students at first, they thrive on this responsibility and our other students relish the opportunity to be taught by their peers and learn about what it means to be a safe, respectful and resilient learner at Garfield Primary School.
