Whilst we draw from a few kindergartens in the local area, the majority of our enrolments come from the Garfield Kindergarten, which happens to be a short walk up the road for us which means that we have lots of opportunities to be able to build connection and ensure that students come to Garfield Primary School feeling confident and connected. Some of the ways that we work to do this include:
Community events and parades
We welcome the 4-year old Kindergarten group to a lot of our community events throughout the year including our Easter Bonnet parade and our Book Week parade.
Term 3 student visits
In Term 3 our Year 5 students start to do some regular visits to the Kindergarten to get to know the students, ahead of starting with us the following year. We do this, knowing that our Year 5 students will be their Year 6 buddy students the following year. It ensures that the Kindergarten students have a few more familiar faces at school and supports them in feeling that much more confident and connected.
Footsteps into Foundation
Footsteps into Foundation is our Foundation transition program which is open to all our Foundation enrolments for the following year, regardless of which Kindergarten they have attended. At Garfield Primary School, we pride ourselves on running a comprehensive transition program so that our Foundation students start their journey feeling condident and connected witht the school. We run 5 sessions in total throughout Term Four, with each session focusing on a different area of the curriculum and introducing them to new staff members.
